Sibling Weekend 2024

Your students are encouraged to invite their siblings to campus on April 19-21 for Sibling Weekend 2024. Activities are planned for all age groups.

A weekend highlight includes shows by Illinois State’s Gamma Phi Circus, now celebrating its 95th anniversary. The shows, which take place in CEFCU Arena, will be held on Friday, April 19, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Redbird Athletics Ticket Office, online, or at the door during the show weekend.

On Saturday, the Student Alumni Council invites students and siblings to attend the Matinee Carnival on the CEFCU Arena concourse beginning at noon. This popular Sibling Weekend tradition is kid-approved and open to everyone with a youth ticket to the matinee show. The carnival includes a variety of games, face painters, prizes, and fun for kids of all ages.

Additional information about the weekend can be found on the Sibling Weekend website.

Student Health Services Transitions to CDC March 1 COVID Guidance

On March 1, 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced a change in the COVID-19 isolation recommendations. The newest CDC respiratory illness recommendations state that anyone with a respiratory viral illness, such as flu, RSV, and/or COVID-19, should remain at home and away from others.

Individuals can resume normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, they are fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication, AND symptoms are improving. Upon returning to normal activities, it is still recommended to practice social distancing, masking, hand hygiene, and taking steps to ensure better air quality to protect others.

Starting on Monday, March 18, Student Health Services (SHS) will be adopting the CDC recommendations. SHS will discontinue COVID-only testing appointments. However, free COVID-19 tests are still available at the SHS pharmacy while supplies last. SHS will continue to provide COVID-19 testing through illness visits to the clinic. SHS will no longer issue letters that can be used to obtain an excused class absence, as required isolation is not included in the CDC recommendations for COVID-19. Students may still request a courtesy absence notification to be sent to instructors by the Dean of Students Office through the Report an Absence portal.

Hitting the Home Stretch with Academics

As the end of the semester approaches, students may find themselves in need of additional academic assistance. Encourage your student to visit University College to sign up for tutoring, workshops, and academic coaching. Many free academic services are available including academic peer coaching, tutoring, academic skills workshops, writing assistance, and more.
