Finals Week

Finals are scheduled from Saturday, December 10, through Friday, December 16. Students can access their final exam schedule via My.IllinoisState.edu. If a student has conflicting final exams or more than two final exams scheduled for the same day, they can request a change to their exam schedule. Their request needs to be granted at least one week before final exams start. They can do so by completing the verification form in My.IllinoisState.edu. Once it is verified by the Office of the University Registrar, students must email the form to their instructor so the instructor and student can work out an agreeable alternative.

Destressing Your Student From Final Exams

Finals can be a very stressful time for students. It is important to create a low-stress environment for your student and encourage them to care for themselves while finishing the semester strong.

  • Encourage your student to practice basic self-care by getting eight hours of sleep each night, eating three meals a day, and taking breaks when needed.

  • Campus Recreation will be hosting fitness classes until Friday, December 9. The schedule and registration for fitness classes can be found on the Campus Recreation website.

  • PAWSitively Stress Free, an event where students can pet certified therapy dogs and enjoy other stress-relieving activities, will be held on the third floor of Milner Library from 2–4 p.m. on December 12 and 13.

Residence Hall Closing Preparations For Winter Break

All residence halls, with the exception of Manchester/Hewett Halls, Fell/School Street Apartments, and Cardinal Court, will close for winter break on Saturday, December 17, at 2 p.m. Students may leave their personal belongings in the rooms; however, they must take whatever they need for the entire break as no student will be allowed back into the halls for any reason during break periods.

Any student who is switching rooms or not returning to their room for the spring semester is expected to completely move out. The residence halls will reopen on Friday, January 13, at 8 a.m.

Students are expected to do the following to prepare their room when leaving for break:

  • Close and secure all windows and the room door
  • Leave window shades open
  • Dispose of all perishable food and any empty bottles or cans
  • Move personal belongings that are on the floor to the bed, desk, or dresser. This will prevent items from being damaged in the event there are any leaks or plumbing problems over break. The University assumes no responsibility for personal property.
  • Empty and clean all trash receptacles
  • If applicable, unplug, clean, and dry mini refrigerator(s); leave mini refrigerator door(s) open.
  • Unplug all electrical appliances, including clocks and computers
  • Set room temperature to 65ΒΊ and set blowers on low
  • Turn off all lights
  • Pull all furniture, including beds, desks, chairs, etc., approximately eight inches away from the wall to allow space for pest control spraying
  • Maintain a clear path from the door to the window

All residential areas, with the exception of Manchester and Hewett Halls, will not be accepting packages or mail during winter break. All packages should be forwarded to Vrooman Center at 101 N. Fell Avenue, Normal, IL 61761, for delivery during winter break.

Students will be notified of these procedures in their closing meetings with the resident assistant or community assistant and in the closing checklist form posted in the halls and online. Please review other important hall closing information on the University Housing website.

Off-Campus Winter Break Security

Off-campus student housing can be the target of burglaries during winter break. The Normal Police Department and Off-Campus Services at Illinois State University suggest students follow these safety tips to avoid loss or damage of property when they are away from their residence for a period of time.

  • Make sure all windows and interior and exterior doors are locked every time the residence is left unattended.

  • Do not leave valuable items such as laptops, gaming systems, or jewelry in plain view or easily accessible near windows or open doors.

  • Understanding that it is not always practical to take TVs, gaming systems, and other large items home on break, take a few minutes to note the make, model, and serial number of the items on a master list. Keep a list of expensive items and update it when new ones are purchased. Save the lists and email copies to a personal account and/or parent or family members. It is also a good idea to take photos of jewelry and other items of value and keep those photos on file as well.

Winter Break University Closure

The University administrative closure begins on Thursday, December 22, at 4:30 p.m. The University will reopen on Tuesday, January 3, at 8 a.m. If you need urgent assistance during this time, please contact the University Police Department at (309) 438-8631.
