We hope you had a great time with your students while they were on winter break. We are ready to welcome them back to campus!
Beginning the spring semester
Course format: All courses will be delivered online between January 10-January 21. After January 3, students should regularly monitor their University email address and ReggieNet course pages for additional information. In-person teaching and learning will resume on Monday, January 24.
COVID-19 entry testing: All students, regardless of vaccination status, are required to upload a negative COVID-19 test conducted no more than 3 days prior to returning to campus facilities. The test can be conducted at any licensed testing facility (e.g., pharmacy, state-run testing site, healthcare facility, laboratory); an over the counter at home test does not meet requirements. Submit results to the secure Patient Health Portal. Individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days must upload proof of a positive COVID-19 test to the Patient Health Portal and do not need to participate in entry testing.
COVID-19 compliance protocol: Students who are on campus and who have not provided Student Health Services (SHS) with evidence of being fully vaccinated are required to participate in weekly on-campus, saliva-based, COVID-19 testing. The required COVID-19 entry test does not qualify as the weekly testing requirement.
Return to on-campus housing: Students living in on-campus housing may return to their residence hall or apartment as previously scheduled. However, students are not required to return to campus during the two-week online instruction period, if all their classes are online. More information about spring move-in will be provided to on-campus students by University Housing Services prior to their arrival.

Student insurance
Student insurance eligibility begins for the spring semester on Thursday, January 6, and ends Sunday, May 8, 2022. Students who are graduating may continue coverage for one additional term. For more information on the Student Health Insurance program, visit the Student Health Services website.
Incoming students’ immunization requirements
All newly admitted students to Illinois State University are required to provide proof of immunity for tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, meningitis, and COVID-19. Documentation of immunity for new students entering for the spring 2022 term must be completed by Monday, January 24. Student Health Services strongly recommends submitting records by January 1. For more information, visit the Health Services website.
Spring registration
If your student is interested in changing their spring semester schedule or looking to pick up a different class or session, registration will reopen on Monday, January 3, at 8 a.m. and remains open through Monday, January 24, at 10 p.m. For more information, visit the Office of the University Registrar website.
University Events Calendar
Are you looking for important campus dates such as academic breaks, deadlines, or course registration? Be sure to check out the University Events Calendar, which features the academic calendar, as well as events happening around campus. If you need a calendar with important dates beyond the current academic year, please see the comprehensive calendar available through the Provost’s Office.
Winter Fest
Encourage your student to get involved by attending Winter Fest, the spring registered student organization (RSO) recruitment fair, on Wednesday, February 2, from 4–7 p.m. in the Bone Student Center. Representatives from a variety of RSOs will be available to share information about their organizations and how students can get involved.
Student account due dates
If your student is enrolled in the payment plan, payments for spring 2022 are due to the Student Accounts Office on the following dates:
-
First installment: Friday, January 14
- Second installment: Friday, February 11
- Third installment: Friday, March 11
- Fourth installment: Friday, April 8
- Fifth installment: Friday, May13
These dates are very important—past due balances will place a hold on your student’s account, which can affect their course registration for future semesters.
Student jobs available on campus
Did you know studies show that students who work up to 10 hours a week have higher grade point averages than students who do not work? Good news—all of our campus dining venues are currently hiring student employees. Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality offers a wide variety of shifts, including early mornings, midday, evenings, and many options in between. The team works with class schedules to find shifts that fit with students’ schedules.
If your student would like to improve their time management, build their resume, learn new skills, and enjoy University breaks off work, please encourage them to apply for a position at Jobs.IllinoisState.edu.
Study abroad opportunities
During their time at Illinois State University, students may participate in a variety of study abroad programs offered in over 50 countries. When students study abroad, not only will they receive credit towards their degree, but their financial aid may be applicable to help cover the cost of their program. Scholarships and other resources are also available. If your student is interested, they can attend a First Steps session to learn more. For more information on how your student can make studying abroad a part of their Illinois State experience, visit the Study Abroad website.
Winter weather closures
In the event that the University closes for severe weather, students will receive an email to their Illinois State account. The information will also be listed on the University homepage and through social media.
Technology Orientation
If your student is new to campus this semester, encourage them to complete the Introduction to Technology orientation. This orientation will help students with the ins and outs of Redbird tech that will help them in the classroom and beyond. The orientation can be accessed at any time at IllinoisState.edu/Quickstart.
