Family Weekend
The weather is looking great in central Illinois for this coming weekend – Family Weekend at Illinois State! If you have made plans to visit your student this weekend, we look forward to having you on campus. If you are still considering either a day-trip or an overnight trip, check out campus events planned especially with families in mind, as well as the “Explore Campus & Community” options on the Family Weekend website.
Share with your student that they can enter to win a pair of tickets to Saturday's Michael Carbonaro: Lies on Stage. The winner will be notified by email Friday night after the entry deadline.
Homecoming 2022: Celebrating Red
Another great time to visit Illinois State is for homecoming! This year, we will be celebrating from October 10-16. Whether you are a parent/guardian, an alum, or both, there are lots of events to get involved with outside of the big game on Saturday, October 15, against South Dakota State. The Homecoming website has a full schedule of events, or you can check out #RedbirdHomecoming on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to follow along with the fun from afar.
Fall Career Fair
The Fall 2022 Career Fair will be held on Wednesday, October 5, from 2-5 p.m. in the Bone Student Center. Students will be able to connect with employers seeking to fill full time positions. Students should prepare by visiting the list of employers.
Spring 2023 Registration
Registration for spring 2023 classes begins Monday, October 17, and closes Friday, December 16. Students can register online through My.IllinoisState.edu. More information can be found through the University Registrar and University College. If your student is unsure when they are scheduled to register, they can verify their date and time in the Academics tab under the Registration Times section of My.IllinoisState.edu. Encourage your students to schedule an appointment with their academic advisor prior to their registration date to determine what courses they should take in the spring.
Student Account Due Dates
If you are enrolled in a payment plan, payments for fall 2022 are due to the Student Accounts Office on or before the following dates:
- Third installment: Friday, October 14
- Fourth installment: Friday, November 11
- Fifth installment: Friday, December 9
These dates are very important to remember—past due balances will place a hold on your student’s account, which can affect their course registration for future semesters.
Supporting Your Student Voter
With the upcoming election in November, it is important to know that college students can be registered at their home address or their college address. Once a student is registered, they can decide if they will be voting by mail, during early voting, or on election day. Illinois State University students can access information about voter registration, ways to vote, and who is on the ballot at the Redbird Voter Guide.
Plan Ahead to Study Abroad
Studying abroad helps broaden your students’ academic experience by experiencing life in another culture and traveling the world while earning academic credit. The Office of International Studies and Programs has meetings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and virtually on Thursdays. Students can learn about the program offerings, how classes abroad transfer back to Illinois State, where to find scholarships, the timeline of the application process, and how to apply.
